Strong Customer Authentication – How To Approve A Transaction

You may have noticed that when shopping online recently – before completing your order – you have been asked to “Approve Transaction”. This is called Strong Customer Authentication (“SCA”), & is a new security feature applied to most online transactions.

Strong Customer Authentication is a requirement of the Payment Services Directive 2 (“PSD2”) – a European Union law that has been introduced across all banks in the EU. It is designed to help protect you against fraud & keep you safe when making purchases with your card(s) online. SCA is essentially an added layer of security on all electronic payments – i.e. ensuring that payments are made with Multi-Factor Authentication.

In summary, when shopping online – before completing your purchase – you may be required to authorise the payment through your mobile banking app.

As we want you to have the best possible shopping experience when using the Homecare Medical website – we have put together step by step instructions – specific to each Irish bank – on how to authorise transactions.

Bank of Ireland (BOI)
  • Ensure you have the BOI banking app downloaded onto your phone/tablet.
  • When making an online purchase, a notification will appear at the top of your screen reading “Action Required – tap here to approve/decline.” Once you receive this notification, tap on it. Then tap “approve”.
  • If you do not receive a notification on your screen, open the BOI app. Tap “waiting for approval” at the bottom of the screen & enter the three missing digits from your PIN.
  • Return to the Homecare Medical website to complete your purchase.

Allied Irish Bank (AIB)
  • Ensure you have the AIB banking app downloaded & the correct mobile number set up on the app.
  • When making an online purchase, a notification will appear at the top of your screen asking you to complete your purchase.
  • Tap on the notification & enter your mobile banking PIN.
  • Return to the Homecare Medical website to complete your purchase.

Ulster Bank
  • Ensure you have the Ulster Bank mobile app downloaded.
  • When making an online purchase – once you enter your card details – a message will appear on the screen asking you to approve the transaction.
  • Open the Ulster Bank app & tap “approve a transaction” at the top of the screen. Then tap “approve”.
  • Return to the Homecare Medical website to complete your purchase.

Permanent TSB
There are two ways of confirming a transaction for Permanent TSB customers – depending on if you use the banking app or not.

1) App
  • If you have the Permanent TSB banking app – you will receive a notification at the top of your screen reading “approve transaction”.
  • Tap on that notification & enter the 3 missing digits from your 6 digit PIN.
  • Return to the Homecare Medical website to complete your purchase.
2) SMS
  • Enter 3 digits from your Open 24 / Business 24 Personal Access Number into the “Approve Transaction” page.
  • An SMS will be sent to your phone with a password. Once received, enter this password into the “Approve Transaction” page.
  • You will then be redirected back to the Homecare Medical website & your purchase will be processed.
