Measuring Guide Instructions

Top of head to C7

Ensure the head is upright and in a natural position. If it is bent forward or to the side, the measurement will be longer, causing the head support to be too long and hood over the head.

Circumference around shoulders

If measuring on a bed, lay the patient on their back in a natural position with arms in mid line. Measure fully around the shoulders, about 8–10cm down from the top at the widest point.

Armpit to waist
With the patient on their side, take the measurement centrally down the spine in line with the armpit. This measurement is used to determine the correct position for a specific waist support.
Circumference around waist
This measurement records the circumference around the waist and can be taken while the patient is seated in a chair or lying comfortably on a bed.
C7 to base of spine

Ensure the patient is as straight as possible. If patient is bent or curled forwards, a longer spine measurement will be obtained resulting in the sling being too long in the back.

Circumference around chest
This measurement records the circumference around the chest and is used to determine the correct size of chest support, helping ensure a secure, comfortable fit and proper positioning for the patient.
Base of spine to back of knee
Measure from the base of the spine, around the fullest part of the buttocks and behind the knee. Include the full shape of the bottom so the sling legs are long enough.
Circumference around mid thigh
This measures the circumference around the mid-thigh and can be taken in a chair or on a bed. Check both thighs, as there may be a difference in size.
